Many thanks to Peter Coyote for sending me this today.

  1. Can we get out of Iraq and not have it turned into an oil rich terrorist state? How?

Can we balance the budget and get out of the huge hole that Bush put us in? How?

Can we regain the respect of those who were once our allies? How?

Can we change our piggish habits and slow down global warming? How?

Can we mention that overpopulation is one of the biggest problems on earth? Can we reward those who don't have children?

Can we stop threatening other countries (like Pakistan) with war?

I'm not sold on any candidate yet.

I'd vote for Nadar. Can we get him elected. No, we can't.

  2. Well, I agree with you on one thing - the madman in the White House has left our country in chaos that will take decades to repair -- if it can be repaired. I could publish volumes on his administration's evil and why he and his fellow henchmen aren't arrested and brought up on war crimes just proves one thing: This country is now run by a select, very, very rich, corporate few. There is very little middle class left, and what is left is decidedly apathetic and just trying to keep their heads above water trying to pay for essential things like heat for their homes.

But you ought to do your research on Nader. He is very far from the "green" candidate, the liberal, the genius, the free thinker that many people associate with his name. In fact, I would go so far as to say he's a huge part of the problem, and if he runs, you're going to see McCain in the White House. Which, my friend, may be exactly what Mr. Nader wants.

  3. Erm, Skinny - I didn't mean to sound so harsh. I wrote that comment to you pre-coffee this morning. Obviously we are on the same page.

But seriously - Nader is one of the bad guys. If you want I can provide some links though I'm sure you can easily find them on your own, but if you can provide some to the contrary, I am always willing to "listen".

My personal gut feeling is that we are living in a terrible time and the number one priority should be throwing billions of dollars into our public education system because right now our country is ruined and it's only going to get worse with the rich getting richer and the poor being left further and further behind. I actually predict another civil war in this country if something isn't done quickly.

Our priorities are all skewed - we care (well, not us) more about Britney Spears and star athletes. It makes me want to puke.

  4. So I saw this yesterday across the AP wires...

    http://www.salon.com/wires/ap/2008/02/04/D8UJJ6EO0_budget_trillions/index.html

And it made me SICK to think how much GOOD could be done in our own backyard with three trillion dollars.

I voted. And I feel fuckin' awesome.

  5. Robin
the excitement he causes and the hope I feel listening to him....makes me feel like I get to experience a JFK in my lifetime.
I'm not endorsing a candidate just yet though because I seem to have the kiss of death when it comes to my selections.

  6. Skinny asks some good questions. What I like about Obama is that he doesn't say HE can do it all. He says WE can--but only if we have the inspiration and the will and the sense of empowerment.

    What a beautiful video, Robin--

Love to you--and yes! I can't wait for our road trip!

  7. Robin,

Thanks for being compassionate. No hard feelings. :-)

I'll have to check into your Nader info.

Like JFK, Obama is young and charismatic. Will he, like JFK, get us into more foreign wars like Vietnam?

His ill conceived threat to Pakistan was very Bush-like.

Obama scares me. I find him inexperienced when our country is in some really deep shite. We need someone who can really make real positive changes actually happen.

I'm not sure who to vote for. But it won't be Obama unless he puts some real cards on the table and gives us more than vague rhetoric.

I agree with you Robin about celebrity worship. That's why this video seems so "hype".

  8. Over on Enrico Casarosa's site, he has a 20-minute video by a Stanford professor, showing the Karl Rovian tactics of the Clinton campaign. Also issues of moral courage, or lack thereof.

It's interesting, and if you pass it to Peter Coyote, I'd be interested to hear his (and your) thoughts on it:

  9. Maybe Enrico's link is too long.

Here's the direct link to the video:

  12. Aw, it's so nice to read these comments.

I had/have the flu and have been feeling too horrible to post or reply to comments but I smiled reading these today and Sue, thanks, I'll check out those sites. Peter has been sending me all kinds of interesting stuff as well but I've yet to go through it all.

Hi, Patry! It's so great to see you here. Trust me, that road trip cannot get here fast enough.

Scott, Rena: I will be back to writing about food next week, among other things...there is much to tell. Which reminds me. Hi, Kim! I know I have some exciting news from you to post, too, and you can't believe it, someone took one of my short stories, turned it into a film, and it's making the festival rounds as well. More on that next week, too. Am I going to have an IMDB listing? Oh man, that would be too cool for words. Hey, did I get that right? It is IMDB, yes? (I have a habit of screwing up the order of letters so what I wrote is liable to stand for Insane Mothers Dancing Bossanova or something)
