Odds and Sods for Tuesday, October 10

So the above is the poster for Eric's show with Mike Keneally and Bryan Beller this Friday night in St. Louis. Eric is in circle #3 pre-Neil Gaiman haircut (see post below) -- man, this is going to be such an awesome show, I wish I could be there. He flies to St. Louis early Thursday for two days of rehearsals and then returns to Philadelphia Saturday night...then two weeks later takes off for Texas with Julie for the west coast portion of the Adrian Belew tour.

What a life, huh.

My beautiful, talented friend Ellen Meister is having quite a week, too. First, her book gets a mention via our mutual beautiful, talented friend Jordan Rosenfeld on NBC!

(Go to the NBC site and click "Play" -- Jordan does an amazing, amazing job talking up Ellen's book!)

If that's not cool enough, Ellen is interviewed at Novel Journey...and I just had a look at some of the other authors interviewed...holy cow, Ellen!

I'm just so freaking proud of my friends. Not only are they incredibly talented authors, they are generous, caring women who somehow find the time to offer support and kindness to fellow writers (while simultaneously taking care of their families..ha ha...I know Ellen personally of course and don't know how she manages it...read the interview and you'll see what I mean).

And...another Ellen interview on Jennifer Prado's site...Jennifer has also interviewed a couple of other great authors like Roy Kesey and Jim Tomlinson, who have both written "must read" books...check out their interviews as well. Good stuff.

Sue Henderson has a brilliant, provocative piece at The Huffington Post today. It will be very interesting to monitor her essay for comments and I hope that some of my readers will weigh in, too.

So that's it for now. I still have the head cold from hell and want to assume the fetal position but I have my own book to work on and have already received a submission for the anthology I'm editing which I cannot wait to read. I'll talk more about that and some other projects I'm working on later in the week when I'm feeling more coherent.

Later,
xo

  1. Thanks for all those great plugs, friend! And how cool about St. Louis. That poster is awesome (as is Eric's new do). Anyway, do you really think my plate is fuller than yours? Seems to me you've always got about 10 million things going on, and you always manage to fit it all in AND remember to pimp for your friends. You're wonderwoman, Rob.

Btw, how did you get that pic of Jordan to look so clear? Mine is all pixilated.

  2. Aw, it's a pleasure. Can you believe how poised and terrific Jordan is in that interview? I want to go out and read every book she mentions and will.

Yeah, your plate is fuller because you have three kids who still require your full attention...mine are finally at the age where they can take care of me (as if har har).

I don't know how my Jordan photo is so clear but here's what I did -- I saved the pic from the NBC site to my own photo folder and then used the blogger photo thing to upload it from there. Try that!

And Eric is so handsome with that new haircut he's going to have like a million groupies when he goes out west on tour next month but he doesn't believe me. Hmpff. We'll see who is right about that!

  3. Oh my god, Sue...I was just over there and all I can say is...Holy shit. I'm trying to frame a proper response but a few of your readers have me horrified. I like Jordan's comment and see myself taking that approach as opposed to going for some throats which is what I really feel like doing.

    Yeah, yeah, I'm really Amish.

But the good news is -- people are reading what you wrote and you've managed to stir up very strong sentiment so that's most excellent.

    How are you holding up?

  4. You are a happy woman, having such a great amount of good and devoted friends!!! It's treasure!!! i have also not so many friends, but very devoted and intimate!!! :) We spend free time always together, even travelliing with our families abroad for holidays!!! Our most favourite place for a vacation is Cyprus!!! We've stayed a lot of times in Cyprus hotels, but last summer we changed the place of our stay there completely!!! We made up our mind to take a Cyprus villa for our families!!! How it was great: no noisy neighbours, crazy crowd, always hurrying somewhere and knocking you down!!! :) Silence, the whole house at our disposal and almost empty beach!!!! :) Highly recommend such to you too!!! Best regards!!! :)

  5. Jess, I'm going to ask you nicely to please stop spamming my blog. This is like the third time. Any post you make with vacation links will be deleted in the future. I'm a nice person but you are really starting to bug me. I'm capable of making my own travel plans.

  6. I would love to go to AWP especially if you are going to be there. My only problem may be a very nice one...Another Bite of the Apple is up for an award and if it turns out I'm a finalist, I need to be at that conference on March 8 in Virginia Beach. I'll find out if I'm a finalist the first week of December...wish me luck! But...if it turns out I am a finalist, then I'd want to party it up...so maybe I could do the February 28-March 3 gig with you in Atlanta and then hang out in Florida for a few days, then head to Virginia Beach March 8.

Oh who am I kidding. I probably won't be a finalist but it's still nice to fantasize. Anyway, let's keep talks open on this because I would really love to go to AWP.
