Reminder!

Beginning in just a half hour, at 8:00 a.m. Eastern time, the Zappanale Festival begins broadcasting right here!. While my son, Eric, and the rest of the Paul Green School of Rock Music All-Stars will not take the stage until after 1:00 p.m. Eastern time, the kids will be standing in front or by the side of the stage throughout the whole concert watching the other bands until it's time for their performance and who knows, the camera may very well pan the audience.

    Hey, Robin--
I just finished watching the kids--unfuckingbelievable!! It was bittersweet because they were so good and because so many of them won't be in All-Stars after this month and because Allie wasn't there (I teared up when Madison did Mary from the bus). Playing with Ike takes the kids to a whole higher level--and it's obvious how much he enjoys playing with them. I'll let Michael tell me how Floyd goes--I can't watch them do Floyd without Allie--it aches too much.

  2. I know. Julie was up in Downingtown Rock School with Matt watching it and I was alone crying my eyes out the whole time, remembering 2 years ago. I am going to have a very hard time tomorrow as well. I was emailing back and forth with Lauren's mom and talking with Haffie's mom and Matt Manser's dad on the phone -- we all panicked every time the screen froze and I was giving instructions (me?) on how to free pop up blocker so you could tune in...it was multi task city here.

Funny story. This was the first time Gary ever took a plane and he was scared to death...both of the flight and no cigarettes for ten hours. Then he was actually worried he wouldn't find cigarettes in Europe! Ha fucking ha! (I told him and he didn't believe me, but in Bad Doberan, there are vending machines from the fifties every block or so filled with lovely things like unfiltered Camels and Lucky Strikes - right up his deathwish alley)

So this morning, I decided to tune in from the very beginning, 8:00 a.m. our time, to see if I could catch the kids standing in front of the stage, watching the bands. What's the first image I see on my computer screen? Gary smoking a cigarette. He filled the entire screen. Ha. So I see he survived his flight and found smokes...it appears he is a happy man after all.

I miss Allie, too. So, so much.

I was blown away by both shows. The kids were ALL excellent. I hope I can get a hold of the professionally made DVDs. I look forward to the Aug 13th finale at the World Cafe.

  4. I'm totally stunned. I went out to dinner with my daughter after they played an hour and a half of Pink Floyd...I thought I watched the whole thing; then I come back 2 hours later just in time to see Sara and Joey doing Hot for Teacher. I can't believe it! So they played for over 3 hours???? Anyway, DVDs are being offered of each band in their entirety at the show...the "greatest hits" will be available on line when it's over. Gary is buying many copies so don't worry, you will be covered. He is having the time of his life in Germany and I am really mad at myself for not going, but I felt like after just quitting my job, I should at least pretend to budget. (Actually, had I quit my job sooner, I would have been there but it was too late to get a ticket for under a million dollars. Ha)

The screen on the computer was so small there were times I couldn't tell Sara from Eric because they both wear their hair long and parted in the middle and the same glasses and also, we're the same ethnic background. Sara is really, really good and keeps getting better -- obviously if I couldn't tell her from Eric!

Anyway, I'm exhausted but I will post a whole review of the shows tomorrow after the finale. Make sure you do not miss that...the kids will be on stage with everyone who played over the past three days and it's this incredible jam session that just keeps going on and on...a drummer will play a song or two, jump up, another drummer will take his/her place...and so on and so on.

    Hello Robin.
I'm the one of the guys who made the webcast and the DVD project possible. Just back from the Zappanale. In fact I'm to tired to do anything but on the other side i'm very curious to see if there's any response on the internet about the webcast. Did people like it or not and that kind of stuff. I'm glad to read that you enjoyed the thing we did. Those Kids are so f.... good. It's really unbelievable. Every minute off the show I'm surprised what they can bring. We will need some time to create the DVD with the pinkfloyd session. We calculated 1.5 Hour and definitely NOT "3" but thank god they did. My friends and I will succeed to create a wonderful document for the KIDS, you and the future. Because that's what they are. Keep looking in about few months to www.zappanale.tv. You'll be surprised. Greeting from the Zappanale Webteam. (Henry)

  6. Hi, Henry:

The response to the webcast was awesome! It was totally unbelieavable that we were able to watch from so many thousands of miles away.

For me, it was a bit of a bummer because I have a Mac so I wasn't able to make my screen large like those with PCs and it froze a lot, but I understand that was because of my computer, not you guys.

It was a thrill; it was awesome, and you so totally rock for doing this...and for free yet!

I already have my hands on a copy of Friday night's performance (Olaf slipped a copy to Eric's dad) and it is so amazing...the camera work...the sound...I'll be watching it all day.

Thank you, thank you, thank you...for making this possible, and for your very kind words.
